Long-Term Resident visa
The LTR visa: 10 years in Thailand, in two stages.
A programme of Thailand’s Board of Investment (BOI) for people with high income, assets, a pension or a profession in a targeted industry.
In short
10 years
First 5 years. Another 5 if the BOI confirms again that you meet the conditions.
Fast Track
Faster passage at Thailand’s international airports.
1 report a year
Instead of one every 90 days. If you leave and come back, the year starts again.
Bank account
LTR holders can open one at Bangkok Bank or Kasikornbank.
What the visa gives you
- Entry
- Multiple entry. No separate re-entry permit needed.
- Reporting
- Form TM.95 once a year instead of TM.47 every 90 days. The TM.30 notification of residence still applies.
- Work
- A Digital Work Permit for every category and family member except Work-from-Thailand Professionals, who work remotely for a company abroad.
- Employers
- The rule of four Thais per foreigner does not apply to any category except Work-from-Thailand Professionals.
- Tax
- Highly Skilled Professionals at targeted-industry companies pay 17% on their salary. The other three categories pay no tax on foreign income brought into Thailand.
- Family
- A spouse, parents, children under 20 and other legal dependants apply for their own LTR visa.
- Banking
- At Kasikornbank you can go straight to a branch. For Bangkok Bank, write to the BOI’s LTR Unit at least 4 days ahead. The basics are a passport, the LTR visa, an ID from your home country and one more document, such as proof of your address in Thailand. Bangkok Bank also asks for the BOI certificate.
- Services
- Visa, work permit and reporting are handled in one centre: TIESC at One Bangkok.
The form is the easy part. The harder part is working out which category you fit, and proving it properly.
Four categories
Each has its own requirements. We look at your profile and tell you right away which one fits.

What your manager does
- Goes through your profile: income, assets, work, family.
- Names the category that fits and gives you the exact document list.
- Stays with you at every stage.
Common questions
Is it 10 years with no conditions?
No. First 5 years, or until your passport expires. You can get another 5 if the BOI confirms again that you meet the criteria. The conditions apply throughout.
Who can come with me?
A spouse, parents, children under 20 and other legal dependants. Each applies separately, with their own insurance or a USD 25,000 deposit. Same-sex marriage is recognised; unmarried partners are not eligible.
Can I work in Thailand?
Yes, with a Digital Work Permit. Except in the Work-from-Thailand category, which is for remote work for an employer abroad.
What about tax?
Highly Skilled Professionals pay 17% on salary from a targeted-industry company. The other three categories are exempt on foreign income brought into Thailand. Income earned in Thailand is taxed as usual.
