How the visa works
- Remote work
- Work for companies and clients abroad is a stated purpose of the visa.
- Work in Thailand
- Prohibited: no Thai work permit, no work for Thai companies or Thai clients.
- Money
- At least THB 500,000. In Japan they ask for 3 months of statements, in Hungary for 6.
- Family
- A spouse and children under 20 apply as the family of a DTV holder.
- Application
- Through a Thai embassy or consulate. Each has its own document list.
With a DTV, most of the work comes before you apply: every embassy has its own requirements, and the list needs checking in advance.
Three grounds
What you need to show depends on your ground and on where you apply.
Remote work and freelancing
Digital nomads, remote employees, foreign specialists and freelancers working for companies or clients abroad. Proof: a contract, employment certificate or portfolio.
Activities in Thailand
Muay Thai, Thai cooking, sports training, medical treatment, seminars. Proof: a letter from the school or clinic.
Family
A DTV holder’s spouse and children under 20. A child coming to study needs a Non-ED visa.
What your manager does
- Works out your ground, your timing and where to apply.
- Checks your embassy’s current list and goes through it with you.
- Plans your entries and extensions across the 5 years.
Common questions
Can I stay for 5 years straight?
No. One entry gives 180 days, or up to 360 with the extension. Then you have to leave and enter again. DTV is for trips with a specific purpose; LTR is the one for moving here.
Can I work for a Thai company?
No. With a DTV you cannot get a Thai work permit or work for Thai companies or Thai clients. Your employer or clients must be abroad.
How much money do I need to show?
At least THB 500,000. The format depends on the embassy: in Japan they ask for 3 months of statements; in Hungary they ask for 6 and do not accept crypto or investment accounts.
Which documents will I need?
The basics are the same: passport, photo, money, proof of purpose. After that, each embassy has its own list. In the UK they ask for proof of permanent residence there or in Ireland; since August 2026 Finland asks for an accommodation booking of at least 7 days.
